The sheet appeared on the market for the first time in a Finarte sale of drawings (1) where it was presented as a preparatory study for the leg of David at the Boymans - Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam. It was then republished by Luisa Mortari in the 1995 monograph on the painter (2)
