Although a Roman, De Angelis spent a period of his life in Venice, where he received various commissions and met the artist Pietro Novelli. The latter would influence De Angelis's work to such an extent that it becomes difficult to distinguish between the two. In the sheet presented here, the signature casts doubt. In the second half of his life, De Angelis traveled throughout Europe, stopping in Vilnius, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, and Munich.
