Gian Battista Tiepolo

- Pen, brown ink, and brown wash

Giambattista collected his caricature studies in at least three or four albums; some of these belonged to Count Bernardino Comiani Algarotti, and part of these groups remained intact until the 1940s. The sheet under examination in all probability comes from one of these albums, which were subsequently dismantled, and finds precise comparisons both with the sheets preserved in the Raccolta delle Stampe “Achille Bertarelli” at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan and with those belonging to the Civici Musei in Trieste, published by Vigni.
