(Genova 1547 - 1637)
The composition derives from an invention by Cavalier d'Arpino known through an engraving by G. Sadeler dated 1593 and dedicated to Cardinal Santori (1). Given the fame of the subject, other engravings by different authors are known. It was common practice for the "Genovese" to draw for his miniatures inventions by various well-known authors such as Raphael, Sebastiano del Piombo, Titian, G.B. Paggi and others.
